In 2012, The Center for Discovery partnered with the Open Space Institute (OSI), a New York-based conservation organization dedicat­ed to preserving scenic, natural, and historic landscapes for public enjoyment, to purchase a 9.2-mile section of abandoned Ontario & Western Railway right-of-way to develop a universally accessible public rail trail. Today, the Milk Train Rail Trail is a fully accessible 9+ mile rail trail that has been revitalized and brings bikers, hikers, and nature lovers together with Hurleyville anchored in the center.

Fiber on Main, located on Main Street is home to various fiber art workshops and classes – from beginning knitting and weaving, to upcycled basket making and needle felting workshops. The studio is a community space where all levels interested in textile and fiber arts can come to learn and show off their creative stitchery sides. Their workshops and classes are open to the public and they offer local yarns, small looms, and carry a supply of Knit Picks Knitting Needles in their studio. Founded in 2016, many individuals have visited their collaborative working space, helping to weave the fabric of the community together.
